About Us

Bambu River is owned and run by Indonesian and long time jungle guide of 35 years ,Wak Youn, and his English wife, Jane and their daughter, Dewi.

The guest house was the first building to be built in 1998 in  what is now known  as the Tangkahan tourist area. The area of the guest house was former(very overgrown ) rubber plantation.

A few set backs have taken place over the years- primarily the battle to oust illegal loggers- taken on by Jane and Wak Youn   at great personal risk in order to preserve habitat- this eventually came good over a period of several years despite having to move to England for awhile due to threats from loggers- they carried on funding a local project to save the area- Today it is  safe from logging  and supported by national park authorities.
